Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain has stated that the country will formally respond to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments regarding Victory Day. Addressing reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday afternoon, Hossain clarified Bangladesh’s position on Modi’s remarks while highlighting the nation’s diplomatic priorities.

Responding to a question during the press briefing, Hossain confirmed that the government intends to communicate its reaction to India in due course. He noted that although Modi’s remarks were related to Victory Day, any analysis or opinions from other officials should be viewed as their personal perspectives, not the official stance of the Bangladeshi government.

Hossain further elaborated on Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to resolve the Rohingya crisis peacefully. He revealed that he is scheduled to visit Thailand on Wednesday to discuss the Myanmar issue. These discussions will occur alongside his participation in the D-8 Summit, where he will hold several sideline meetings with leaders from various member countries.

In response to a separate query regarding St. Martin’s Island, the advisor explained that disruptions to the travel routes connecting the island were temporary. He attributed the situation to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar, assuring that the matter would eventually stabilize.

On Monday, Modi had posted a message on his verified Facebook page to commemorate Victory Day, which marks the end of the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. He paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers who contributed to the victory. Modi described their dedication as a source of pride and inspiration for future generations, emphasizing the historical significance of their actions in defending the nation and securing honor for India.

The remarks have drawn attention from both countries, with Bangladesh preparing to engage diplomatically on the matter.
