The Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has issued a warning to Bangladeshi citizens regarding travel to Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia due to increasing incidents of job-related scams in these countries.

In a press release on Friday, the ministry stated that certain fraudulent individuals and scam organizations in these countries are enticing job seekers with offers of lucrative salaries for positions such as computer operators, typists, and call center operators. These recruitment efforts are being disseminated through fake websites, emails, and social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram.

Reports indicate that scam centers are luring Bangladeshi citizens, along with individuals from other nations, into their operations. Once inside, they are coerced at gunpoint into participating in fraudulent activities.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Bangkok has already facilitated the return of several Bangladeshi citizens who were either rescued or escaped from scam centers in Myanmar and Cambodia. The ministry has urged the governments of the respective countries to take necessary action against such scams. Additionally, Bangladesh embassies in Thailand and Myanmar are maintaining constant communication with NGOs and other organizations working against cyber scams in the region.

Bangladeshi nationals seeking employment abroad have been advised to exercise extreme caution when receiving job offers related to computer operations in these countries. The ministry has encouraged individuals to verify the authenticity of the employers through the relevant branches of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET) or Bangladesh embassies abroad.

Furthermore, the press release highlighted that scam centers are targeting Bangladeshis and citizens of other countries through social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, often tricking them into financial fraud. These scammers are leveraging cryptocurrency to swindle money, instantly shutting down accounts after transactions to avoid detection.

Bangladeshi citizens at home and abroad are advised to remain vigilant while using social media and avoid making investments through unverified channels.
