Mumbai Police have apprehended the individual accused of stabbing Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. The suspect, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, also known by the alias Vijay Das, is a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national. According to the police, the suspect entered India illegally through the West Bengal border five to six months ago and had been residing in Mumbai since then.

The arrest occurred early Sunday morning approximately 35 kilometers from the actor’s residence, as reported by Indian media outlet NDTV. The suspect is currently being held at Khar Police Station. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam informed Times of India that preliminary evidence supports the claim that the accused is a Bangladeshi citizen without valid Indian documentation. Some materials seized during the investigation further indicate his Bangladeshi nationality.

Initial police findings suggest this was the first time the accused attempted to enter Saif Ali Khan’s residence. Investigators believe the suspect adopted a false identity under the name Vijay Das after crossing into India illegally. He reportedly worked in and around Mumbai, primarily with a housekeeping agency.

Police have also disclosed that the accused used multiple identities, including Vijay Das, Mohammad Ilyas, and BJ. At one point, he worked at a local bar in Thane. Additionally, another suspect linked to the incident, Akash Kanojia, was earlier arrested in Chhattisgarh and handed over to Mumbai Police. Authorities have recovered parts of the weapon allegedly used in the attack.

Further investigations are ongoing as Mumbai Police examine all aspects of the case, including the suspect’s activities during his time in India and his motives behind targeting the actor.
