Dhaka, November 29 (Online Desk) – Professor Asif Nazrul, interim advisor for law, justice, and parliamentary affairs, commended the collective efforts of Bangladeshi citizens, including student organizations, madrassas, and political parties, in ensuring the safety of minorities during recent Durga Puja celebrations. Drawing on findings from a survey conducted by Voice of America (VOA) Bangla, Professor Nazrul highlighted the remarkable role of these groups in safeguarding communal harmony.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, Professor Nazrul referred to the VOA survey, which revealed that 64.1% of respondents believe the interim government has been more effective in protecting minority communities than the previous administration.
“We have witnessed first-hand how various groups, including students and religious organizations, came together to ensure the safety of minorities during Durga Puja,” Nazrul wrote. He emphasized the spirit of unity and resilience displayed by the nation, even amidst provocation and tragedy.
Referring to the recent brutal murder of lawyer Saiful Islam in Chattogram, Nazrul commended the remarkable patience and restraint exhibited by the Muslim majority in the face of such provocation. “Despite this heinous act, the Muslims of Bangladesh have shown immense composure and tolerance,” he stated.
Nazrul also criticized India’s reaction to Bangladesh's internal affairs, calling it unwarranted and hypocritical. He pointed out that while India continues to voice concerns about minority rights in Bangladesh, it overlooks widespread atrocities against its own Muslim minority population. “India’s double standards are both condemnable and objectionable,” Nazrul added.
The professor underscored the need for introspection and consistent values when addressing minority rights and communal harmony. While praising the unity demonstrated by Bangladeshis, he urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and proactive in fostering an inclusive society.
Nazrul’s remarks come at a time of heightened scrutiny and reflect the broader narrative of Bangladesh's commitment to upholding communal harmony and the rule of law, even under challenging circumstances.
