After a prolonged 52-hour blockade, the workers of TNZ Group in Gazipur lifted their protest on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Monday, following a tripartite meeting. The workers had been obstructing the highway since Saturday, but they withdrew the blockade at around 2:15 p.m. on Monday.
Following the removal of the blockade, vehicular movement resumed, but traffic congestion persisted.
According to Mohammad Jalal Uddin, an inspector of the Department of Labor, negotiations between the protesting workers and local authorities had been ongoing since morning at the TNZ factory. A final decision was made when both workers and employers were called to the Secretariat for discussions. The protesting workers were connected to the Labor Secretary via online communication, who assured them of action, leading to the lifting of the blockade.
