BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has contacted Imran, a member of Dhaka College’s convening committee, who was shot and critically injured during last year’s July mass uprising. Imran has been undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Orthopaedic Hospital and Rehabilitation (Pangu Hospital) in Shyamoli for over eight months since the incident on July 19 in Dhaka’s Paltan area.

On Tuesday evening, Tarique spoke to Imran over the phone through Chhatra Dal’s central general secretary, Nasir Uddin Nasir. He inquired about Imran’s health, family condition, and details of the incident.

Expressing solidarity, Tarique assured Imran of all possible support from the BNP. "It may take two more years for all of Imran’s surgeries to be completed, but the BNP family will stand by him no matter how long it takes," he said.

Chhatra Dal leaders, including Office Secretary Jahangir Alam, Joint General Secretary Rahat Hossain, Dhaka College unit President Piyal Hasan, and Member Secretary Millad Hossain, were also present during the call and wished Imran a speedy recovery.

Imran was wounded during clashes between protesters and law enforcement during last year’s anti-government demonstrations. His prolonged hospitalization has drawn attention from opposition leaders, who accuse the government of suppressing dissent with excessive force.
