A BNP activist was brutally killed in a medieval-style attack in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali district on Friday (December 27). The incident occurred around 1:40 PM in front of the Sujayetpur Purbo Jame Mosque, located in the Sujayetpur village of Alaiyapur Union under Ward No. 5.

The victim, identified as Kabir Hossain alias Shali Kabir (35), was the son of the late Nur Nabi from the same village. According to locals, Kabir was an active worker at the ward level for the BNP in the area.

Witnesses reported that masked assailants, numbering 5-6 and traveling in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, targeted Kabir moments after he exited the mosque following the Jumu’ah prayers.

Earlier that day, Kabir had attended the mosque for Friday prayers, completing the Jumu’ah prayer behind the imam before heading home. However, as soon as he stepped out of the mosque, the attackers arrived on the scene and opened fire on him. The gunfire struck Kabir in the head, causing him to collapse to the ground.

What followed was a gruesome act of violence, as the attackers proceeded to sever Kabir’s left Achilles tendon and slit his throat to ensure his death before fleeing the area.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, law enforcement officials, including Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Abdullah Al-Faruk, visited the crime scene. SP Abdullah stated that police are actively investigating the case to uncover the motive behind the murder. He expressed confidence that the reasons behind the killing would be determined soon.

The victim’s family and local residents were unable to provide any immediate insight into the cause of the attack. However, it was noted that Kabir had returned to the area on August 5, following a period of absence. Local sources also disclosed that he was facing several legal cases at the time of his death.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing fear over the public and brazen nature of the attack. Investigations are ongoing, and law enforcement authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
