From the Trinamool to the high command, the same voice is heard everywhere: Meherpur district means BNP, Meherpur district is dominated by BNP. However, when the convening committee was recently formed, thousands of defected leaders from all over Meherpur complained about this newly formed committee. Because the district convener has rehabilitated the League from each ward to the union level committee. Then the question arises - where is the real BNP? And who are the driving force of the party? This question has come to the fore due to extreme dissatisfaction with the union and ward committees formed under the leadership of the district committee convener Jabed Masud Milton.
In this regard, Mr. Asaduzzaman Bablu, a renegade and popular leader of Gangni and former secretary of Gangni Upazila BNP, said - "The district BNP president Milton gave the responsibility of forming the committee to some self-interested Awami League leaders instead of evaluating the renegade leaders. He did not follow the declared constitution of the party and rehabilitated the League in the name of forming the committee for his own benefit through the trade of the committee. Regarding the person who fed the cake to celebrate the birthday of the Awami League getting shelter from Milton, Asaduzzaman Bablu said, "This is nothing new for the district convener. Many such proofs are viral on the internet. The rehabilitation activities of the League are going on at a rapid pace due to his hands. Even as a BNP leader, I feel insulted that the League leaders came to our Meherpur District BNP President Milton Saheb after cutting the cake and wiping his face, saying, "What more shame can there be for the party than this? I am presenting all the complaints of the grassroots to the party high command. Whatever the party's decision comes, we will take it with the leaders and workers at the grassroots level and will also inform the media workers like you, Insha Allah!"
The allegations of party sources and local defectors, who have been beaten up on the streets for a decade and have been in cases, are at the bottom of the page; whereas those who cut the cake for the Awami League's founding anniversary until yesterday, are sitting in the party with their heads held high.
"Is this BNP, or a packet party made by Milton?"
The tone of division within the district BNP is now clear. The leaders and workers clearly complain—"If people from the Awami family are given positions in the name of the convening committee, then there is no question of our movement. So is this committee created to destroy the movement?”
District convener Javed Masud Milton has been accused of keeping important decisions secret, of giving positions by ‘setting’ them aside and excluding the leaders who had resigned,
Also, allegations have been made that former Awami League leaders have been appointed to ward committees in various places and committees have been formed without any real review at the upazila-union level.
The message from the leaders and activists is “We have shed blood, been beaten, and fought cases. Today, instead of our names, positions are being given to those who were eating cake in the Awami League office yesterday. So where is our place in the movement?”
