Sohail Rana, known as Nata Sohail, a prominent and influential member of the ruling Awami League's youth wing, caused widespread panic in the town of Eshwardi on Friday, December 6, after switching allegiances to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Upon joining the opposition party, Sohail launched a brutal attack on the homes of Awami League leaders Habibur Rahman Habib and Zahidur Rahman Zahid, triggering a sense of fear and chaos among locals.

The incident occurred in the afternoon at the residence of the two leaders, located on Hospital Road in Eshwardi. According to sources within the families of the victims, Sohail, along with a group of 12 to 15 armed individuals, arrived at their homes with a variety of weapons, including a pistol, sharp knives, machetes, and iron pipes.

The attackers attempted to break into the locked doors of the houses. When they failed to force entry, they resorted to gunfire, shooting two rounds, which sent shockwaves through the surrounding area. The group continued their rampage by throwing stones and bricks at the windows, smashing them in the process.

The incident has left the local community in a state of panic, as such violent acts have been rare in the area. The motive behind the attack appears to be linked to political rivalry, as Sohail's sudden shift to BNP has been marked by hostility toward the local Awami League leadership.

Local residents have expressed concerns over the growing influence of political violence in the region, and the incident has raised questions about the escalating tensions between political factions ahead of upcoming elections.
