Dhaka, January 10 – A delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) met with the Chief Adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, emphasizing the necessity of holding elections promptly after implementing essential reforms. The three-member delegation was led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

The meeting took place at the state guest house, Jamuna, at around 7:00 PM on Monday. Following the discussion, Mirza Fakhrul briefed journalists about the key points addressed during the session.

According to the BNP Secretary General, the party urged the government to remove individuals from the administration who have been complicit in what they described as a fascist rule and have caused harm to the nation. They emphasized the need for these individuals to be held accountable under the law. He also pointed out that the recent nationwide unrest and acts of vandalism have given fascism an opportunity to strengthen its position.

Mirza Fakhrul further stated that BNP had demanded legal action against those responsible for economic misappropriation over the past fifteen years. Additionally, the party called for the repatriation of funds allegedly laundered out of the country during this period.

He also mentioned that BNP raised concerns over politically motivated false cases filed during the Awami League’s tenure. In response, assurances were reportedly given from the government’s side regarding a review of these cases and potential withdrawal measures.

The meeting underscored BNP’s insistence on conducting elections as soon as possible, following minimal but necessary reforms, to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
