BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly condemned the rising incidents of violence, harassment, and abuse against women in Bangladesh. In a press release issued on Friday (March 7), signed by BNP Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu, Fakhrul expressed deep concern over the alarming trend of women being targeted in public spaces, educational institutions, and workplaces.

Fakhrul highlighted the significant contributions of women to the nation’s development and progress, stating, “Women are playing a leading role alongside men in all spheres of the country’s development. Their advancements in education are particularly commendable. Women are also enhancing the country’s reputation abroad through their remarkable achievements.” However, he lamented that despite their contributions, women in Bangladesh continue to face harassment, assault, and even murder.

The BNP leader criticized the government for its failure to address these issues effectively. “Since the fascist government came to power, the prevalence of violence against women has increased significantly. The Awami League government has not taken strict measures to combat this, and the culture of impunity has emboldened perpetrators, making them more reckless. This trend continues unabated,” Fakhrul said.

He expressed grave concern over the growing incidents of harassment in public spaces and educational institutions, calling such behavior dangerous and destabilizing. “These incidents are creating chaos and instability in society. Protecting women’s dignity and freedom is our moral responsibility, as well as their constitutionally recognized right,” Fakhrul emphasized.

Fakhrul also urged the government to take immediate and strict action to curb violence against women and restore justice and peace in the country. “The people of the country are deeply worried about the overall lawlessness, including violence against women. We strongly condemn and oppose these acts and call upon everyone to act responsibly and with awareness. The government must take a firm stance to suppress these chaotic situations and ensure justice and peace,” he stated.

The BNP leader’s statement comes amid growing public outrage over recent incidents of violence against women, including harassment, assault, and murder. His call for accountability and stricter measures reflects the broader demand for a safer and more equitable society for women in Bangladesh.

Fakhrul’s remarks also underscore the need for collective efforts to address the root causes of gender-based violence and ensure that women can live and work without fear. As the nation grapples with these challenges, his appeal highlights the urgency of implementing effective policies and enforcing laws to protect women’s rights and dignity.
