Before her departure to the United Kingdom for medical treatment, senior leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) visited the residence of party chairperson Khaleda Zia in Gulshan. The visit occurred on the evening of January 5, just before Khaleda Zia was scheduled to travel for treatment.
Around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, members of the BNP's highest decision-making body began arriving at her residence, known as 'Firoza', in the Gulshan area of Dhaka. According to BNP's media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, the senior leaders of the party's standing committee, including several prominent figures, attended the meeting to discuss the chairperson's departure.
Among those present were standing committee members such as Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Jamir Uddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Begum Selima Rahman, Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed (Bir Bikram), Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku, and A Z M Zahid Hossain.
If all goes as planned, Khaleda Zia is set to leave Dhaka for London on January 7. After receiving treatment in the UK, there are plans for her to visit the United States for further medical care. On her way back to Bangladesh, the BNP chairperson may also perform Umrah. Following the finalization of her travel plans, on January 2, Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman met with Khaleda Zia to discuss her medical treatment and trip abroad.
According to BNP sources, she will be transported to London via a specialized air ambulance designed for long-distance travel. A list of at least 15 individuals who will accompany her has already been submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Since the government's change on August 5, when Khaleda Zia was released, many have met with her. However, this is the first time that all members of the standing committee have gathered together for a meeting with her. The last time the standing committee members had a joint meeting with the BNP chairperson was during the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha.
