The body of Shahinur Rahman Kabya, a tenth-grade student of Adamjee Cantonment School and College, was recovered on Wednesday morning from the lake near Bridge 4 of Sector 2 in the 300 Feet Road area of Purbachal, Narayanganj. This discovery came 24 hours after the body of his friend, Sujana, a twelfth-grade student of Bhashantek Government College, was found in the same location.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mehedi Islam of Narayanganj district confirmed the recovery. Kabya was the son of Harunur Rashid from the Boubazar area of Kochukhet, Dhaka, while Sujana was the daughter of the late Abbas Mia, also from the same neighborhood.

According to police and statements from the families, Kabya and Sujana became friends while attending the same coaching center, despite studying in different institutions. On Monday afternoon, Sujana left her home, telling her family that she was visiting a friend. She later met Kabya, and together they went to Purbachal on a motorcycle to spend time by the lakeside.

Neither of them returned home that night, prompting their families to search for them in different locations. On Tuesday morning, police recovered Sujana’s body from the lake near Bridge 4 in Purbachal. The following morning, a diving team from the fire service found Kabya’s body along with the motorcycle in the same lake.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the two friends might have met with an accident while riding the motorcycle at high speed, losing control and falling into the lake late at night. However, the exact cause of death will be determined after autopsy reports are received, said ASP Mehedi Islam.

Kabya’s father, Harunur Rashid, stated, “My son left home on Monday, saying he was going out to visit places. When he did not return, we started looking for him but found no trace. On Tuesday morning, news of Sujana’s body being recovered was broadcasted on various media platforms. It was then that we realized Kabya might have been with her. This morning, we received the devastating news of his body being recovered along with the motorcycle from the same spot.”

He added, “It seems like an unfortunate accident, but we are waiting for the autopsy report to confirm the exact cause of death. I urge the police to investigate thoroughly and find out if there is any other reason behind this tragic incident.”

The incident has left both families devastated, with many questions still unanswered. Police are continuing their investigation to rule out foul play and uncover the complete details of the events leading to the tragic deaths of the two friends.
