Families of the martyrs from the Pilkhana BDR mutiny and massacre have demanded a fair reinvestigation into the tragic incident. They raised this demand during a meeting with the Chief Advisor at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday, December 30. The families also called for February 25 to be declared as Martyrs’ Day.

The Chief Advisor’s Press Wing issued a statement detailing the discussions that took place during the meeting.

The families shared their grievances, recounting the mental harassment and oppression they have faced under the regime of Sheikh Hasina. They described the inhumane treatment they endured when seeking justice for their loved ones and alleged attempts to suppress the truth through various means.

According to the families, promises made by the government to rehabilitate them in Dhaka Cantonment’s Moinul Road were never fulfilled. They claimed no martyr family was ever allocated housing in the area, despite public assurances. Similarly, commitments to provide free education for the children of the martyrs and other forms of support were not honored.

Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus expressed astonishment that a comprehensive investigation into the massacre had not been completed even after all these years. He noted that the concealment of crucial facts for such a long time was an extraordinary and troubling matter.

During the discussion, Dr. Yunus acknowledged the families’ accounts and vowed to take necessary steps to ensure transparency. He emphasized the importance of compiling and disclosing all available information related to the incident. He assured the families that, as a moral responsibility to the nation, justice for the victims of this tragedy would be pursued.

The meeting was attended by several advisors, including Legal Advisor Asif Nazrul, Industry and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Power and Energy Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Advisor Mahfuz Alam, and Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud. The advisors expressed their solidarity with the families and reiterated their commitment to addressing the unresolved issues surrounding the Pilkhana tragedy.
