At an all-party meeting held on January 16, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government, reiterated the importance of unity in the formation and functioning of the government. He emphasized that unity remains the core strength of the government, and expressed his commitment to work in alignment with this principle for as long as he is in his position.
The meeting, which took place at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, focused on discussing the July Uprising Declaration and its implications. During his speech, Dr. Yunus reflected on the government's foundation based on national unity, and he called on the attendees to continue to work together to achieve the goals of the declaration. He noted that when people unite, they feel more empowered and capable of overcoming challenges, and the government draws its strength from this unity.
Dr. Yunus recalled a conversation he had with students who wanted to present a declaration related to the uprising. He mentioned that while he understood their aspirations, he emphasized that the declaration should reflect the spirit of unity and collective effort that characterized the events of August 5. According to Dr. Yunus, any attempt to recreate that moment of unity should involve all parties and not be carried out in isolation, as doing so would undermine the very essence of the movement.
He further remarked that the purpose of the interim government and the declaration was to foster national unity, and that working together was essential to ensure the success of their collective objectives. Dr. Yunus expressed hope that the political leaders present at the meeting would continue to uphold this spirit of unity, and that the declaration could be a testament to the strength of the nation, both domestically and internationally.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for representatives from various political parties to share their perspectives and discuss the contents of the declaration. Attendees included key figures from the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Ganatantra Mancha, and other political groups. Among them were BNP’s Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, and leaders from the Reform Movement and Gano Adhikar Parishad, among others.
Dr. Yunus concluded his speech by urging the participants to continue working in unity and to demonstrate their collective resolve to the world. He expressed his confidence that as long as the spirit of unity remained intact, the interim government would continue to thrive and make progress toward its goals.
