Chinmoy Krishna Das, the spokesperson for the United Sanatan Awakening Alliance, has been arrested on charges of treason, according to Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan. Speaking at a community gathering and winter clothing distribution event in Pirgachha, Rangpur, on Tuesday morning, the adviser clarified that the arrest was not made based on religious affiliation but rather in the interest of national security.
Asif Mahmud stated, "The government will take strict action against any act of treason that threatens the sovereignty and independence of Bangladesh. No individual, regardless of their status or leadership role, will be spared if they are found involved in such activities."
He further added, "Law enforcement actions are driven by national security concerns, not by considerations of community affiliation."
Referring to recent protests in Dhaka that attempted to destabilize the country, Asif Mahmud noted that individuals responsible for creating unrest are also being apprehended. He revealed that some groups were luring rural citizens to join protests in the capital by offering interest-free loans, under the guise of peaceful movements.
The adviser also warned, "Any conspiracy against the independence, sovereignty, and aspirations of the nation will be met with appropriate legal action. A faction is still active in trying to disrupt the country under the pretext of protests. We will not tolerate such activities."
The event witnessed the distribution of winter clothing to over 600 families, following which Asif Mahmud visited the proposed site for a bridge over the Teesta River at Panialer Ghat in Pirgachha and Ulipur, Kurigram.
It is worth noting that Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of the police at Shahjalal International Airport on Monday while traveling from Dhaka to Chattogram. His arrest sparked protests in Dhaka and Chattogram by members of the Sanatan community.
