Dhaka: A physical altercation at the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement office in Banglamotor left at least seven individuals injured on Tuesday afternoon. The injured were promptly taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. The incident occurred around 3:30 PM inside the organization’s central office.

The injured individuals have been identified as Imran Hossain (22), Anta Mim (21), Ashaf Uddin Babu (22), Asif (24), Afsar Uddin Babu (24), Masud (24), and Al Amin (24).

According to Al Amin, one of the injured students, tensions began the previous day during a coordination meeting held in Jatrabari. At that meeting, Nayeem Hamid Prithu, an active member of the movement, was reportedly assaulted by fellow members Ashikuzzaman Hridoy, Shimul, Ashik, and others. Despite all being members of the same movement, disagreements escalated into violence.

To resolve the matter, a discussion was arranged at the central office earlier today, with all concerned parties in attendance. However, the meeting devolved into another altercation inside the office, resulting in injuries. Al Amin claimed that at least ten individuals were hurt in the clash, though hospital sources confirmed treatment for seven.

Md. Faruk, in charge of the hospital’s police camp, stated that the emergency department had treated seven individuals so far. He noted that their injuries were not life-threatening.

This incident has raised concerns about internal conflicts within the student movement, which is otherwise known for advocating against discrimination. Efforts are ongoing to mediate the situation and prevent further escalation.
