Dhaka, January 27 — A violent clash between students of Dhaka University (DU) and the affiliated seven colleges resulted in at least 20 people being injured, including journalists and bystanders. The injured were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), with most discharged after receiving first aid.
Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the incident late Sunday night. Among those injured were several students from Dhaka University, including Ripon Chowdhury (21), Irfan (20), Ashraf (20), Mehedi (23), Faisal Ahmed (22), Sad (22), Hridoy (23), Mahin (22), Ismail, Imtiaz (20), Uzzal (25), Miraj (23), Amanullah (22), Himu (23), and Sabbir Hossain (24). Students from Dhaka College—namely Ibrahim (23), Rishad (23), and Rakib (24)—were also injured.
Additionally, Tofayel Ahmed, a journalist from Bangladesh Times, and a pedestrian named Uzzal (32) were among those who received medical attention.
Inspector Md. Faruk stated, “Injured individuals continued arriving at the hospital until midnight. However, most of them were treated in the emergency department and left shortly after.”
The altercation reportedly escalated from tensions between the two groups, resulting in a chaotic situation requiring medical assistance for multiple individuals. Further investigations into the incident are ongoing.
