Former State Minister for Home Affairs, Lutfuzzaman Babar, has urged his party members to remain prepared against ongoing conspiracies against the country. He made this call at a public reception organized by the Netrokona District BNP at Moktarpara Playground on Sunday (February 23) afternoon.
After spending 17 years in prison, Babar returned to his birthplace in Netrokona, where he was greeted with overwhelming love and support from thousands of people.
During his speech, Babar stated that the previous government sentenced him to death in three murder cases. However, he expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and the people’s love for his release.
Addressing the interim government, he called for swift elections to transfer power to a democratic administration. He emphasized that for the past 15 years, people had been deprived of their right to vote. He insisted that the people's true ownership of the country must be restored and democracy must be reinstated to its rightful position. He urged that citizens should have the freedom to decide whom to vote for and who will govern the nation.
The public reception was presided over by Netrokona District BNP Convener Professor Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque and conducted by Member Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam Hilali. Central, district, and upazila BNP leaders, along with members of affiliated organizations, also addressed the gathering.
