On Wednesday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accused the ruling establishment of reigniting political conspiracies that have long plagued Bangladesh. Speaking at an event marking the anniversary of the BNP student wing, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), at the Engineers Institution auditorium in Dhaka, Fakhrul lamented the ongoing struggles of his party’s leadership.
Fakhrul referred to past incidents of political maneuvering that led to the imprisonment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for six years and forced the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to remain in exile. "Unfortunately, the same game of conspiracy has started again in Bangladesh," he declared, emphasizing that these schemes aim to sideline BNP leaders who advocate for the nation’s sovereignty and democratic ideals.
Addressing the broader political crisis in the country, Fakhrul reiterated the party’s demand for an interim government to oversee reforms necessary for a fair and inclusive electoral process. He described the current deadlock as a result of attempts to marginalize leaders who uphold the values of “Bangladesh first.” According to Fakhrul, the BNP’s resilience over the years has proven that such efforts to dismantle the party are futile. "BNP’s politics is the politics of the people, and no amount of conspiracy can erase that."
Fakhrul urged JCD activists to embrace knowledge-based politics and actively participate in cyber warfare against misinformation and propaganda. "Social media is a key battleground," he said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a robust online presence to counter domestic and international conspiracies. He called on student leaders to increase their activities on digital platforms and to prepare themselves as the vanguard of the party's future struggles.
JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib, who presided over the event, reflected on the sacrifices of student leaders during past political movements, particularly in the face of suppression by the Awami League-led government. Rakib announced plans for a new wave of politics across campuses nationwide, emphasizing the need for clean and principled leadership. "The days of extortion and domination on campuses are over," he asserted, promising a fresh direction for student politics.
The event also featured speeches from several prominent BNP leaders, including Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Dr. Asaduzzaman Ripon, Chairperson’s Adviser Aman Ullah Aman, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie. Among the speakers, the recurring theme was unity and determination to overcome the challenges posed by the current political climate.
Rakib and other JCD leaders pledged to uphold democratic values and resist any efforts to suppress their movement. They expressed confidence in the resilience of their organization and its ability to mobilize the youth for a greater cause. The program concluded with calls for stronger participation from students and activists to reclaim their rightful space in the nation’s political arena.
