Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor, urged Bangladeshi officials, NGO representatives, and civil society leaders to intensify their efforts to highlight Bangladesh's climate crisis at the COP-29 summit in Baku, Azerbaijan. Dr. Yunus made this appeal on Monday, November 11, shortly after arriving in Baku to lead the Bangladeshi delegation at the United Nations' annual climate change summit.

During a coordination meeting at a local hotel, Dr. Yunus encouraged the delegation to focus on incorporating Bangladesh’s concerns and demands into COP-29’s final declaration.

At the meeting, Environment Secretary Farhina Ahmed briefed officials on Bangladesh’s stance on several key issues. Bangladesh has formed nine teams to participate in discussions on critical areas, including climate finance, loss and damage, just transition, and adaptation processes.

She also noted that at least 29 NGOs and civil society organizations from Bangladesh are participating in COP-29. Despite assurances from wealthier nations of the Global North, Bangladesh has so far received $344 million in grants and $250 million in loans for climate finance.

Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus arrived in Baku at 5:15 p.m. local time on Monday to lead the country’s efforts at the summit.
