The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has directed that all admissions for students selected through the central lottery system for both public and private schools must be completed by December 30. Mohammad Aziz Uddin, the Secretary of the Dhaka City Enrollment Committee and Deputy Director of the Directorate, also mentioned that schools can continue the enrollment process on their weekly holidays, Friday and Saturday, if necessary.
From Wednesday, the enrollment process began for 306,088 students who were selected through the lottery for admission in government and private schools across the country, from grades one to nine. The lottery results for these grades were released earlier, and included the merit list as well as the first and second waiting lists. The results were sent to all educational institutions on Tuesday, along with detailed instructions for the enrollment process.
In the 680 government schools, there are 108,716 seats available, with 98,205 students selected for admission. Meanwhile, in 4,945 private schools in the city and district towns, there are 1,007,673 seats, with 207,883 students selected for enrollment. The first waiting list for government schools has 79,502 students, and for private schools, it has 101,156 students. The second waiting list includes 58,558 students for government schools and 67,514 for private schools.
According to a directive from the Directorate, school principals and headmasters must complete the enrollment of selected students within six working days. After that, the first waiting list will be processed, and admissions from this list must be completed within three working days. If there are any remaining seats, the second waiting list will be used, and admissions must be finalized within two working days. Importantly, all enrollment procedures must be completed by December 30.
Regarding admission fees and other charges, it was stated that in rural schools, the total admission fee, including session charges, should not exceed 500 Taka. In municipal and upazila areas, the maximum fee is 1,000 Taka, while in cities (excluding Dhaka), it can be up to 3,000 Taka. For government MPO (Monthly Payment Order) schools in the capital, the maximum admission fee is 5,000 Taka, and for partially MPO-listed schools, the fee can be up to 8,000 Taka. For English-medium schools, the admission fee can reach up to 10,000 Taka.
Additionally, schools in the capital can charge a maximum of 3,000 Taka as a development fee. Annual session charges can be applied after students pass the annual exams, but no re-enrollment fees can be charged under any circumstances. The government has set clear guidelines to ensure the admission process is smooth and that students and parents are not burdened with excessive fees.
