On Monday (January 27), a decision was made to end the admission tests for seven colleges under Dhaka University (DU) starting from the 2024-25 academic session. This announcement was made during a meeting between the DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan and the principals of the seven colleges.

The meeting, held in the DU VC's office, aimed to resolve ongoing issues regarding the affiliation of the seven colleges. Present at the meeting were DU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Mamun Ahmed, Proctor Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, deans from various faculties, and teachers from the concerned departments of the affiliated colleges.

The meeting concluded with several key decisions:

The first decision involved the formal separation of the seven government colleges from Dhaka University. From the 2024-25 academic session, the colleges will no longer conduct their admission process under DU.

Previously established procedures were amended, advancing the change to the current year, and the colleges will operate independently from Dhaka University’s admission process.

In response to student demands, a special committee formed by the Ministry of Education will oversee the activities and decisions regarding the 2024-25 academic session. The committee will make final decisions on student seats, admission fees, and other related matters.

As for the students currently enrolled under the DU system, the university administration has assured that their academic progress will continue smoothly, and their education will not be disrupted by these changes.

The meeting also recommended that the Ministry of Education’s expert committee finalize all arrangements for the 2024-25 academic year, including determining seat allocation and tuition fees, to ensure the transition is well-managed and fair for all parties involved.
