Dinajpur, one of Bangladesh's northern districts near the Himalayas, is experiencing a significant cold wave as temperatures continue to drop. The combination of dense fog and cold winds has enveloped the district, causing a sharp increase in the chill factor. For the past few days, the biting cold has been affecting daily life, particularly during the early morning and nighttime hours. Heavy fog blankets the area from late night to early morning, and the addition of chilly winds makes evenings particularly cold. While the sun's appearance in the afternoon brings some relief, the intensity of the cold returns quickly after sunset.

On Saturday morning, December 7, the temperature in Dinajpur was recorded at 10.3 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature of the season so far in the district. The persistent cold winds have made it difficult for people, especially those in vulnerable groups such as laborers and low-income families, to cope with the conditions.

A visit to different areas of the district reveals the struggles of people braving the extreme weather. The dense fog and chilly winds make the cold almost unbearable, particularly for those without adequate shelter or warm clothing. Many people are seen lighting fires in open spaces to ward off the cold, while others continue their search for work despite the harsh conditions.

Dinajpur’s Regional Meteorological Office confirmed the dip in temperature. According to Acting Officer Tofazzal Hossain, the temperature at 6 a.m. on Saturday stood at 10.3 degrees Celsius, with 93% humidity in the air and a wind speed of 1 kilometer per hour.

The current weather has disrupted the daily lives of the district’s residents, with the working class bearing the brunt of the harsh conditions. However, as the cold wave persists, many are hoping for measures to provide relief to those most affected by the freezing temperatures.
