Dhaka, January 29 – Former police officers who were dismissed during the tenure of the previous Awami League government staged a protest in front of the police headquarters, demanding their reinstatement. They alleged that their termination was illegal and unjustified.

At around 12:15 PM on Wednesday, the dismissed officers gathered outside the police headquarters, chanting slogans such as, “No discrimination in the new independent Bangladesh,” “Abu Sayeed Mughda, the fight is not over yet,” “Give me back my uniform, or give me poison,” and “Our only demand—an executive order for reinstatement.”

Jahid Hasan, one of the protesting officers, stated that they have been fighting for the past six months to regain their jobs. He claimed that former interim government Home Adviser Brigadier General (Retd.) M. Sakhawat Hossain had ordered the police headquarters to reinstate them. However, despite the directive, no action has been taken in the past six months.

The demonstrators emphasized that they do not want to be victims of discrimination and that they are unwilling to wait any longer for justice. They urged the authorities to issue an executive order to restore their jobs immediately.

Despite the protest, traffic movement on the road in front of the police headquarters remained normal. Additional police personnel were deployed in the area to maintain order.

Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Division, Md. Masud Alam, stated that the dismissed officers were demonstrating to press for their reinstatement. He added that authorities have invited the protesters to engage in discussions to address their concerns.
