Following the inauguration of US President Donald Trump, the US government temporarily suspended all foreign aid programs for 90 days through an executive order. However, the assistance for Rohingya refugees residing in Bangladesh will continue. This assurance was provided by the press secretary of Bangladesh's interim government, Shafiqul Alam, during a briefing held on Sunday evening at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

Shafiqul Alam confirmed that the US is not halting its aid to the Rohingyas, and for this continued support, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has expressed gratitude to President Trump.

During the briefing, the press secretary also highlighted that the Bangladesh government plans to host a large international conference this year on the Rohingya issue, with 170 countries expected to participate. The United Nations will co-organize the event. Alam emphasized that the root cause of the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar's Rakhine State is the ongoing civil war, with significant clashes between the Arakan Army and the Myanmar military. Due to this conflict, over 70,000 Rohingyas have fled Myanmar and entered Bangladesh since January of the previous year.

Furthermore, the press secretary shared that on Sunday afternoon, senior officials from the US Embassy in Dhaka met with Dr. Khalilur Rahman, the High Representative for Rohingya Affairs, to reaffirm the US's commitment to continuing its aid to the Rohingya community.
