Eight eminent individuals have been selected to receive the Independence Award this year in recognition of their outstanding and glorious contributions at the national level. A high-level government source disclosed the information on Thursday. The recipients include: Liberation War Commander-in-Chief M. A. G. Osmani (posthumous), pop legend Azam Khan (posthumous), scientist Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam, writer and historian Badruddin Umar, BRAC founder Sir Fazle Hasan Abed (posthumous), sculptor Novera Ahmed (posthumous), poet Al Mahmud (posthumous), and BUET student Abrar Fahad (posthumous).
The Cabinet Division confirmed that the list of awardees has been approved by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The names will be officially announced by the Cabinet Division shortly.
