The Election Reform Commission will submit its report on election system reforms by January 3, following consultations with the new Election Commission. On Sunday, December 29, the commission’s head, Badiul Alam Majumder, made the announcement after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission office.
Badiul Alam Majumder stated that the commission is striving to submit its recommendations to the government by December 31, but if not, it will ensure submission by January 3. He emphasized that feedback from the Election Commission, being a key stakeholder in the electoral process, was crucial to shaping their proposals for fair and impartial elections.
During the meeting, the commission inquired about potential suggestions to enhance the integrity of elections. Responding to questions about the implementation of their recommendations, Majumder clarified that the government’s decisions would determine the course of action. The commission intends to advise the government to publish the report for transparency.
He further explained that the report preparation process included extensive consultations with stakeholders such as government officials, law enforcement agencies, elected representatives, local government officials, journalists, and other relevant parties.
The Election Reform Commission was formed on October 3 by the interim government as part of broader reform efforts. The eight-member body was tasked with submitting recommendations within 90 days to the Chief Adviser of the interim government.
