Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the interim government’s Adviser on Forests, Climate, and Environment, remarked that not only teachers but also farmers in this country engage in research. She made this statement on Wednesday afternoon while addressing a program at the Central Shaheed Minar of Chittagong University (CU) as the chief guest.

The event was organized to mark the ‘Chittagong Research and Innovation Fair 2025,’ an initiative of the Jamal Nazrul Islam Center for Mathematical and Physical Sciences. In her speech, Syeda Rizwana Hasan emphasized that research should be conducted for the welfare of humanity. It should be not only scientific but also address social issues. She asserted that researchers are not limited to academics, as farmers also conduct research by developing different varieties of crops.

She further stated that discussions should be raised on the proportion of the national budget allocated for research and how much should ideally be invested in this sector to enhance research capabilities.

The adviser also paid tribute to Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam, calling him a world-renowned researcher who remains immortal through his contributions. She remarked that Jamal Nazrul Islam is not only the pride of Chittagong but also a distinguished figure on the global stage. His knowledge and research continue to keep him alive in the academic community. She urged everyone to engage in work that would ensure their legacy continues beyond their lifetime.

The event was also addressed by CU Vice-Chancellor Yahya Akhter, Pro-Vice-Chancellors Shamim Uddin Khan (Academic) and Professor Kamal Uddin (Administration), Dean of the Faculty of Science Al-Amin, A.F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation Trustee M. Nurul Alam, Professor Kamrul Hasan Mamun from the Department of Physics at Dhaka University, and Sadaf Saz Siddiqui, a member of the Jamal Nazrul Islam Research Center, among others.
