A tragic road accident occurred in Gafargao, Mymensingh, when a sand-carrying drum truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw, resulting in the death of Fatima Akter (60) at the scene. The crash also left the auto-rickshaw driver and three passengers injured.
The incident took place on Wednesday night (December 25) at around 8:45 PM at the Gondagram-Bakhura Bypass area on the Gafargao-Bhaluka road. Fatima Akter, a resident of Bakhura village, was the wife of the late Abdul Kadir.
The injured individuals include the auto-rickshaw driver, Noyon Mia (45), and passengers Selina Akter (50) and Tuni Akter (18).
According to local sources, the accident occurred when the sand truck, coming from the opposite direction, collided with the battery-powered auto-rickshaw. Fatima Akter died on the spot, while the driver and the other passengers sustained serious injuries. The truck driver fled the scene after abandoning the vehicle.
Local residents immediately rushed to the scene and took the injured individuals to the upazila health complex. Upon receiving the news, Gafargao police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and seized the abandoned truck.
Gafargao Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Shibirul Islam, confirmed that the truck had been seized and appropriate legal action was being taken regarding the incident.
