In a shocking incident in Rampura, Dhaka, a rickshaw-puller father has been arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter. The accused, Anwarul Islam, confessed to the crime during his court testimony. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at a tin-shed house in the Boubazar area of Rampura.
Local residents alerted the police, who rescued the minor and admitted her to the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for medical treatment. Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqur Rahman of Rampura Police Station confirmed the details, stating that Anwarul, a drug addict, lived in the tin-shed house with his three children. His wife had passed away recently.
According to SI Rahman, locals informed the police late Saturday night that the father had sexually assaulted his daughter. Police rushed to the scene, arrested Anwarul, and took the victim to the hospital for medical care. A case has been filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
After being presented in court, Anwarul gave a confessional statement and was subsequently sent to jail. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, highlighting the vulnerability of children in unsafe environments. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
