Five people, including the driver of a CNG-powered autorickshaw, were killed in a tragic road accident in Sherpur when their vehicle was crushed by an oncoming bus. The accident occurred around 11:30 AM on Sunday on the Sherpur-Mymensingh highway in the Sapmari area of Vatsala Union, Sherpur district.

The incident happened when the autorickshaw driver tried to avoid hitting a stray dog, inadvertently steering the vehicle into the path of an oncoming bus. The collision caused the autorickshaw to be completely crushed.

One female passenger sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where her condition remains critical, according to the police.

Among the deceased, the autorickshaw driver has been identified as Lokman Akram, 45, a resident of Tarakandi in Sherpur Sadar Upazila. The identities of the other victims, including two female passengers, have not yet been confirmed.

The accident caused a one-hour traffic disruption on the highway. Local police, army personnel, and fire service teams arrived at the scene to recover the bodies, which were later sent to the district hospital morgue for autopsy.

Sherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jubaydul Alam, citing eyewitnesses, stated that the autorickshaw veered in front of the bus while attempting to avoid the dog, leading to the immediate deaths of the driver and four passengers. The tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety in the area.
