Chandramauli Biswas, former guitarist of the popular Bengali rock band Fossils, was found dead in his Kolkata residence yesterday afternoon. The discovery of his hanging body has left fans and colleagues in shock, unable to come to terms with the untimely and mysterious death of the talented musician.
According to reports from Indian media, Chandramauli was alone at home when the incident occurred. His current bandmate, Mahul Chakraborty, visited his house only to find his lifeless body hanging. Authorities were immediately informed, and the Kolkata Police have registered a case of unnatural death, initiating an investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings suggest suicide as the cause, but further details are awaited.
A close associate of Chandramauli expressed disbelief, stating, "We couldn't reach him over the phone since morning. But we never imagined he would take such a drastic step."
The sudden demise of Chandramauli has left his peers and admirers in deep mourning. Just hours before his death, he was active on social media, making the news of his passing even more difficult to comprehend.
Chandramauli was associated with Fossils from 2000 to 2018, a period during which he gained immense popularity as a guitarist. After parting ways with the band, he went on to perform with two other groups, Golok and Zombie Cage Control. He lived in central Kolkata, where he continued to pursue his musical journey.
News of Chandramauli’s death reached Rupam Islam, lead vocalist of Fossils, who was deeply shaken by the tragic event. Despite being overcome with grief, Rupam paid tribute to his former bandmate during a live performance. On stage, Rupam addressed the audience, saying, "As we were on our way here, we received this devastating news. It hit us like a bolt of lightning. In such moments, it feels impossible to perform or even touch an instrument. But here we are, facing the audience for whom we began this journey together. Chandramauli was a significant part of that journey. I could never imagine this band performing without him. He was not just a bandmate but one of my closest friends."
