Former advisor to the interim government, A.F.M. Hasan Arif, has passed away at the age of 72. He breathed his last today, Friday, at 3:10 PM at LabAid Hospital in Dhaka after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The news of his demise was confirmed by his Assistant Private Secretary (APS), Md. Abed Chowdhury, who cited initial reports from doctors stating that the cause of death was a heart attack.
Hasan Arif had taken his oath as an advisor to the interim government on August 8, alongside Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who was sworn in as the Chief Advisor. Arif was responsible for overseeing the Ministries of Land and Civil Aviation & Tourism during his tenure in the interim government.
An eminent figure in Bangladesh's legal and administrative landscape, Hasan Arif previously served as the Attorney General of Bangladesh from 2001 until April 28, 2005. He also played a significant role in the caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed, managing responsibilities related to the Ministries of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, as well as Land and Religious Affairs.
Hasan Arif's contributions to the legal field and governance will be remembered as a vital chapter in the nation's history. His passing marks the end of an illustrious career dedicated to public service. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
