Former Traffic Sub-Inspector (TSI) Liton Chandra Dutta was detained by an angry crowd while appearing to testify at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Noakhali on Sunday (March 23). The incident, which took place around noon, was captured in a video that went viral on social media. In the footage, Liton is seen pleading for forgiveness from the public for his alleged misconduct during his tenure under the Awami League government.
Local sources claim that Liton, who served in Maijdee town for over a decade, was a close associate of former Noakhali-4 MP Ekramul Karim Chowdhury. During this time, he allegedly filed false cases against local BNP and Jamaat leaders, harassed them, and engaged in widespread bribery. Multiple BNP leaders accused Liton of being a collaborator of past fascism, claiming his actions forced many to live in fear and extorted money and gold ornaments under false pretenses.
On Sunday, when Liton arrived at the court to testify, aggrieved locals gathered and detained him. The situation escalated until the army and Sudharam Thana police intervened, rescuing him and taking him to the police station. Sudharam Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamrul Islam stated that Liton was released as no formal complaints were filed against him at the time.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion, with many calling for accountability for alleged abuses of power during his service.
