On the evening of January 25, residents of Dhaka were treated to a spectacular astronomical event as four planets—Venus, Saturn, Mars, and Jupiter—aligned in the sky. This rare sight, known as a "Planet Parade," was visible across the capital, with the planets appearing in a row across the evening sky.
The event, organized by the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, took place in Kalabagan, Dhaka, and was accessible to the public from 6 PM to 10 PM. The National Museum of Science and Technology also provided support for the event, helping to bring the rare celestial occurrence to the attention of the city's residents.
As the evening progressed, Venus, the "evening star," became the first to appear in the western sky just after sunset. As the sky darkened, Jupiter followed, positioned almost directly overhead. Saturn was visible slightly below Venus, and Mars made its appearance later on the eastern-northern horizon. The unique alignment of these planets was a fascinating sight for skywatchers and stargazers alike.
In an interview, the President of the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, Mashhurul Amin, explained that such alignments are not an uncommon occurrence. Since all the planets orbit the Sun, they periodically align in the sky, creating such remarkable views. According to Amin, the alignment of planets is a regular event, and this specific alignment would remain visible throughout much of February.
For many, the Planet Parade served as a reminder of the wonders of the night sky, offering an opportunity for both casual observers and astronomy enthusiasts to appreciate the beauty of our solar system.
