Four Suspects Remanded for Five Days in Connection with Murder of Child Muntaha in Sylhet

In Sylhet's Kanaighat, a court has approved a five-day remand for four individuals accused in the murder of five-year-old Muntaha Akter Zerin. On Monday, November 11, around 2:45 pm, Judge Kazi Md. Abu Jaher Badol of the Sylhet Judicial Magistrate (Fourth) Court granted the remand request for each of the four suspects.

The accused include Shamima Begum, also known as Marjia (25), her mother Alifjan Begum (55), Islam Uddin (40), and Nazma Begum (35), all of whom are residents of Birdaul Bhararifaud village in Kanaighat and neighbors of the victim’s family.

According to court sources, the four suspects were presented in court around 2:30 pm. Investigating Officer SI Shamsul Arefin Jihad Bhuiyan of Kanaighat Police Station requested a seven-day remand for each accused. After hearing the arguments, the judge granted a five-day remand for each.

Muntaha, daughter of Shamim Ahmed from Birdaul Bhararifaud village, had been missing since November 3. On Sunday morning, police recovered her body, confirming the tragic end of the search for the young girl.
