Golam Farida Chhanda, a well-known actress in the Bangladeshi television industry, is currently starring in two popular dramas aired on Deepto TV and Channel i. She is also part of the newly released film "Voyal," which will be released today. In a recent interview with Kaler Kantho, she opened up about her acting career, personal choices, and the success of her daughters, Tupur and Tapur, in the industry.
When asked about the success of "Mashrafee Junior", which has crossed 1200 episodes, Chhanda expressed her pride in the show’s longevity. She highlighted the growth of the actress playing the main character, who has evolved from a young girl to an adult, paralleling the development of her character, Runa Khan. Runa, a housewife turned working professional, journalist, and lawyer, has gained immense popularity with viewers, making the show a significant hit. Chhanda credited the drama’s success to its compelling plot, the dedicated performances of the actors, and the ability of the scriptwriters to maintain suspense, keeping the audience hooked.
Reflecting on the difference between past and present-day dramas, Chhanda recalled the days when director Salahuddin Lovlu would go to great lengths for authentic outdoor shoots, even traveling by foot or boat to new locations. She pointed out how budgets have become tighter over time, which has affected the creativity and production quality of contemporary dramas. Despite these challenges, Chhanda acknowledged that Lovlu continues to direct but is also constrained by modern limitations.
Talking about her new movie, "Voyal," she shared her excitement for the release, mentioning that director Bipul Haider gave her a unique character to portray. She planned to watch the movie in theaters on its release day to experience the audience's reaction firsthand.
Chhanda also discussed her daughters, Tupur and Tapur, both of whom have appeared in TV shows. Although they are currently studying in Darjeeling, they occasionally return home for acting opportunities. Chhanda, along with her husband, actor Satyarth Rahman, helps them select scripts and plan their schedules. As a mother, she refrained from giving professional opinions, but as a viewer, she expressed great pride in their performances.
With a career spanning 25 years, Chhanda reflected on both her achievements and regrets. While she never fully pursued film offers early on, fearing the instability of the film industry at the time, she expressed that her decision had both pros and cons. Despite not venturing into films, her role as "Basanti Boudi" in "Sakin Sarisuri" continues to be remembered fondly by audiences.
Chhanda concluded by expressing satisfaction with her career, especially the fact that she continued to work actively even after becoming a mother. She found particular joy in seeing her daughters succeed and felt immense fulfillment from their accomplishments.
