In a shocking incident in Ashulia’s Nayarhat area, a gold trader was brutally attacked and killed by robbers who stole gold and cash after he resisted their attempt to snatch his belongings. The victim, Dilip Kumar Das (48), owner of Dilip Swarnalaya in Nayarhat Bazar, was attacked with machetes while closing his shop on Sunday evening. He later succumbed to his injuries at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar.
According to police, the incident occurred around 8:30 PM when Das was on his way home after closing his shop. The attackers stabbed him and fled with his belongings, including gold and cash. Locals rescued the injured businessman and rushed him to the hospital, where he died during treatment. The exact amount of gold and cash stolen remains unknown.
Dilip’s relative, Khokon Sarkar, stated that three assailants tried to snatch his bag while he was closing the shop’s shutter. When Dilip resisted, they attacked him with machetes, inflicting severe wounds on his chest and back. Doctors confirmed that he died due to excessive blood loss and a punctured lung.
Dilip’s wife, Saraswati Das, said her husband usually returned home by 9 PM. She claimed the robbers took away 20-25 tolas of gold and an unspecified amount of cash. Dr. Merajur Rehan Pavel from Enam Medical College Hospital reported that Dilip had deep wounds on his chest, right cheek, and back, leading to his death during surgery.
Ashulia Police Station’s Investigation Officer, Kamal Hossain, stated that they are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the culprits and recover the stolen items. Legal actions are being pursued to bring the perpetrators to justice.
