A young woman was shot dead on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Shreenagar, Munshiganj, with her body discovered by police on the service road. The police later confirmed the identity of the deceased as Saheda Akter (22), also known as Sahida Begum. Several shell casings were found near the body at the scene, but it remains unclear whether she was killed directly on the highway or if her body was disposed of there after the murder.
Saheda Akter was from the Begunbari area in Mymensingh's Kotowali Upazila, and her father, Abdul Motaleb, resides there. She had been living in a rented house in the Wari area of Dhaka, working at a daycare center.
The discovery of her body was made around noon on Saturday, December 1, when the police recovered it from the service road near the Dogachi area of the expressway. Munshiganj's Additional Superintendent of Police (Crimes), Firoz Kabir, confirmed the identification of the victim.
According to the police, Saheda lived with her brother in Wari and worked at a daycare center. The police identified her after receiving a phone call, though fingerprint analysis was not successful in confirming her identity.
Local witnesses reported seeing a young woman walking on the expressway with a man early in the morning. About one to one-and-a-half hours later, pedestrians discovered her bullet-ridden body on the road. The man she was seen walking with was not recognized by locals, and it is unclear if anyone else was with them. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds on her back, and several bullet casings were found near her body.
Some police officials speculated that the woman may have been shot and killed and her body discarded from a moving vehicle onto the expressway.
Upon receiving the report, police arrived at the scene around 8 AM, and later members of the PBI (Police Bureau of Investigation) and DB (Detective Branch) also visited the location. Saheda's identity was confirmed based on fingerprint data, and her body was taken to Shreenagar Police Station by 12 PM. Later that afternoon, when her mother was notified, she came to the station and identified her daughter's body.
Shreenagar Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kayyum Uddin Chowdhury stated that the police immediately responded to the scene. By the afternoon, Saheda’s identity had been confirmed, and efforts were underway to collect nearby CCTV footage to help uncover the mystery surrounding her death.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Shreenagar Circle) Anisur Rahman, citing Saheda's mother, revealed that the victim had been working as a child caretaker at a house in Dhaka. Saheda had left the house around 8 PM on Friday night, and her phone was turned off shortly after. Her mother was informed later that afternoon that her daughter had been killed by gunshot. However, they are unsure why Saheda was in the Dogachi area of Shreenagar or who she was with at the time.
The police have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her murder
