A new service-based app called "HELP" has been launched to ensure the safety of women on public transport in Dhaka. The app enables women to immediately seek assistance from law enforcement agencies in case of harassment or sexual assault while traveling on buses or other public transport. It also allows users to file complaints directly.
The app, officially named Harassment Elimination Literacy Program (HELP), was inaugurated on Saturday (March 15) at the Daily Star Building on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue in the capital. The event was chaired by Rezoanul Haque, Chairman of the Broadcast Journalist Center (BJC), and attended by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Sazzad Ali as the chief guest.
The initiative is a joint effort by the Broadcast Journalist Center (BJC) and Switch Bangladesh Foundation. DMP Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Sazzad Ali stated that any incident of violence against women reported through the HELP app will be treated as a First Information Report (FIR) immediately, ensuring swift legal action.
The app aims to provide a safer environment for women commuting in Dhaka by offering a direct and efficient way to report incidents and seek help in real-time.
