Dhaka is gearing up for New Year’s Eve tonight, with heightened security and safety measures to prevent any untoward incidents. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken strict steps to maintain order, with all police stations under its jurisdiction enforcing stringent security protocols from this evening.
Special instructions have been issued to prohibit the flying of sky lanterns, setting off fireworks, or the use of firecrackers during the celebrations. Local vendors have been requested to refrain from selling these items, and enforcement actions have already been taken in areas known for such sales.
The Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate is also on high alert, prepared to respond to any fire-related emergencies caused by fireworks or lanterns. All fire stations nationwide have been instructed to remain vigilant throughout the night.
Additional police personnel will be deployed in key areas of the capital, particularly in affluent neighborhoods, to ensure compliance with the regulations. Public gatherings or open-air events to mark the occasion have been restricted, with authorities prepared to take legal action against violators.
Security checkpoints will be active in critical zones across the city, with police conducting searches as deemed necessary to prevent disruptions.
