The sacred night of Shab-e-Qadr (Laylatul Qadr), revered as "better than a thousand months" in Islam, will be observed across Bangladesh starting Thursday evening with solemn prayers and spiritual devotion.

Considered the holiest night in Ramadan, Shab-e-Qadr commemorates the revelation of the Quran. Muslims believe worship on this night brings unparalleled divine mercy, forgiveness, and blessings. The government has declared a public holiday the following day to facilitate observances.

  • Night-long prayers: Mosques, including Dhaka’s Baitul Mukarram, will host Tahajjud (optional night prayers), Quran recitations, zikr (remembrance of Allah), and sermons.

  • Special programs: State and private TV/radio channels will air religious discussions, while newspapers publish themed articles.

  • Congregational gatheringsWaz Mahfils (Islamic lectures), Milad, and collective supplications (Akhiri Munajat) will be held after Taraweeh prayers.

Religious scholars emphasize the night’s significance, urging devotees to seek repentance and spiritual renewal. "This is a divine opportunity to attain closeness to Allah," said a senior imam at Baitul Mukarram.

Homes and mosques are expected to remain illuminated as millions engage in worship until dawn, upholding Bangladesh’s tradition of marking the occasion with piety and communal harmony.
