Following the mass uprising on July 5, 2024, the Bangladesh Army has been deployed across all districts to maintain peace and security. As part of this nationwide deployment, a temporary army camp was established in Meherpur—the smallest district in Bangladesh, located near the Indian border. The army has since gained the trust and appreciation of the local population through continued operations in the region.

On the night of May 16, 2025, at approximately 11:30 PM, based on intelligence reports, the Meherpur army camp was informed that a group of smugglers had hidden illegal weapons at the Radhakantapur graveyard, located in Buripota Union under Meherpur Sadar Upazila.

In response, a patrol team led by Major Fazle Rabbi conducted a raid in the area between 12:15 AM and 1:00 AM. Although no smugglers were found during the operation, a thorough search of the area resulted in the recovery of one Indian one-shooter pistol, 33 rounds of 0.22 mm ammunition, 7 rounds of 12-gauge shotgun shells, and 18 spent 12-gauge cartridge cases.

The recovered firearms and ammunition were handed over to Meherpur Sadar Police Station for legal processing.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, Sheikh Mezbaha Uddin Ahmed, confirmed that the seized items have been officially registered and a case has been filed under the Arms and Explosives Act. No suspects have been arrested as of yet, but law enforcement continues their investigation to identify and apprehend those involved.
