Dhaka, Monday – The Chief Adviser of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has instructed the formation of a command center to closely monitor the country’s law and order situation. His directive came during a high-level security meeting held at the state guesthouse Jamuna, where top officials of law enforcement agencies reviewed the current security conditions.

The meeting was attended by Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Md. Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, and heads of police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Coast Guard, and Special Branch.

Addressing the security officials, the Chief Adviser emphasized the need for law enforcement agencies to utilize the most advanced communication technologies to ensure swift responses to any disturbances. He stressed that the establishment of a command center or headquarters would facilitate coordination among police and security forces, allowing for a more effective response to any emerging threats.

The new command structure, he explained, would integrate all security agencies and law enforcement bodies, including police stations, under a unified system for efficient monitoring and coordination. The Chief Adviser urged the security heads to remain vigilant against any attempts to destabilize law and order.

“We must be as alert as in wartime,” he said. “This year is extremely crucial for our nation, and we cannot allow anyone to create chaos and disorder. Elements associated with the ousted autocratic regime of Sheikh Hasina are spending vast sums of money to incite unrest and spread misinformation.”

The Chief Adviser called on citizens to remain cautious against misinformation and propaganda, urging them to resist any attempts to mislead the public.

Furthermore, he directed security officials to uphold human rights and take special measures to protect religious and ethnic minorities from any attacks. “If we fail to ensure the safety of religious minorities, our global reputation will suffer severely. We must maintain complete transparency in this matter,” he stated.

The Chief Adviser also instructed the police to launch a strict crackdown on extortionists to keep essential commodity prices stable, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam reported that ten special teams have been formed to monitor and investigate murder cases related to the violence allegedly perpetrated by Sheikh Hasina’s security forces in July and August. In response, the Chief Adviser ordered law enforcement to expedite the trials of these cases while ensuring that no innocent individuals were wrongfully targeted.

Additionally, the Inspector General confirmed that Bangladesh had formally requested Interpol to issue a red notice against Sheikh Hasina. “We have submitted our request and expect a response soon,” he stated.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali reported that stringent security measures had significantly reduced incidents of mugging and robbery in the capital. “Our efforts will continue to maintain public safety,” he affirmed.
