Jagannath University (JnU) is currently experiencing a complete shutdown as students continue their protests, which have included hunger strikes and the closure of campus gates, disrupting classes and examinations. The demonstrations began over 24 hours ago, with students demanding the handover of the university's second campus to the military, along with provisions for temporary housing and other pressing concerns.

On Monday morning, the protests escalated as students locked the main entrance and departmental gates, effectively halting all activities on campus. Social media posts from students indicate widespread participation in the movement, with many expressing their solidarity with those on hunger strike.

During a visit to the campus, locked gates were observed at the main entrance as well as at multiple academic departments, including Botany, Social Work, Political Science, Chemistry, Computer Science and Engineering, Physics, Marketing, Management Studies, Accounting and Information Systems, History, International Relations, Pharmacy, Mathematics, Land Management and Law, Mass Communication and Journalism, and Bengali. Students from these departments have joined the shutdown, making it clear that they will not resume classes or exams until their demands are met.

Students participating in the strike have taken up positions across the campus, blocking entry points and preventing faculty and staff from accessing their workplaces. Many officials were seen waiting outside the gates, unable to perform their duties.

The protesting students emphasized that their actions were in solidarity with those on hunger strike, stating that they could not stand by while their peers suffered. "Our brothers are risking their lives; we cannot sit idly by. We’ve boycotted all classes and exams and declared a shutdown. Until our demands are met, no academic activities will take place," one protester declared.

The situation remains tense as students stand firm in their demands, with no resolution yet in sight. The ongoing protests highlight their determination to achieve tangible progress in addressing their grievances.
