Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Islami Andolon Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim have committed to working together to establish unity among Islamic political parties in Bangladesh. They made this promise during a joint press conference on Tuesday, January 21, at Chormonai Madrasa in Barishal Sadar Upazila.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman emphasized the need for Islamic parties to unite, asserting that their combined strength could prevent any further manipulative elections. He stated that their primary goal is to achieve this unity and ensure fair electoral reforms before participating in future elections. He further remarked that if reforms are implemented in a timely manner, they are prepared to take part in the electoral process.

Dr. Rahman also highlighted the significance of implementing Islamic principles to establish good governance, free from corruption and mismanagement. He pointed out that although 91% of Bangladesh's population identifies as Muslim, the country has yet to experience governance fully aligned with Islamic values. Reflecting on the nation’s history since independence, he expressed concerns over pervasive corruption and poor governance, attributing these issues to a lack of adherence to divine laws. He called on citizens to support their vision of building a society based on the principles of Islam.

Mufti Rezaul Karim, the Chormonai Pir, echoed similar sentiments. He noted that efforts to introduce an Islamic voice into the electoral process have persisted over the years and that success in these efforts depends on timely and strategic action. Mufti Karim advocated for proportional representation in elections, suggesting that such a system would be beneficial for the country.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to work collectively, aiming to align their political agendas with the interests of the nation and the principles of Islam.
