Following an all-party meeting on Thursday (January 16) at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami's Secretary General, Mia Golam Parwar, emphasized that the July Uprising declaration, being a document of significant national importance, should be free from haste, inconsistencies, and lack of coordination. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, he stated that the government had invited political parties to share their views in drafting the declaration. Jamaat-e-Islami presented its perspective during the session.

Parwar noted that all political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, broadly agreed on drafting the declaration to uphold the principle of national unity. However, he pointed out that many political parties received the draft declaration from the government only shortly before the meeting, which limited the time available for a thorough review. He stressed the importance of taking a measured and inclusive approach in drafting the document.

He further explained that the process should involve meaningful consultations with all stakeholders, allowing each political entity to provide its input. According to him, the initial draft missed several fundamental aspects. Parwar highlighted that the significant contributions and sacrifices of Islamic groups, including those of Jamaat-e-Islami, during anti-authoritarian movements were not adequately acknowledged in the draft. He mentioned instances where Jamaat leaders were subjected to executions, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings as part of the resistance against oppression and fascism, urging that these historical facts should not be omitted from the declaration.

Parwar underscored that the drafting process must be designed to ensure inclusivity, enabling every stakeholder to voice their opinions. Jamaat-e-Islami recommended further deliberations to refine the declaration into a document that accurately reflects the collective struggles of the nation.

The meeting, chaired by Interim Government Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, began at 4:30 PM and concluded shortly before 6:00 PM. Representatives from various political parties and other stakeholders participated in the session. Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by a four-member delegation, including Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary Generals Habibur Rahman Azad, Advocate Moazzem Hossain Helal, and Ehsanul Mahbub Jubaer.
