Narayanganj, [10th March, Monday] – Jamaat-e-Islami leaders in Narayanganj have pledged to ensure press freedom and a supportive environment for journalists if the party comes to power. The assurance came during an iftar and prayer event organized by the Narayanganj Journalists Forum, hosted by the Araihazar Upazila unit of Jamaat-e-Islami.
The event, held in Araihazar, was attended by prominent local journalists and Jamaat leaders. The chief guest, Mohammad Mominul Haque Sarkar, Amir of Narayanganj District Jamaat-e-Islami, emphasized the party’s commitment to safeguarding media independence. “We stand by journalists and want to support them. If Jamaat-e-Islami comes to power with everyone’s prayers, journalists will be able to work in peace and without interference,” he stated.
Sarkar further asserted that true peace in the country would only be achieved through the implementation of Quranic laws. “Until the laws of the Quran are established, peace will remain elusive. When Jamaat-e-Islami assumes power, journalists will have the freedom to work independently, and there will be no interference in the media,” he added.
The event also featured speeches from other Jamaat leaders, including Abu Saeed Munna, Assistant Secretary of Narayanganj District Jamaat, and Engineer Bakir Ahmed, Secretary of Literature and Culture for the district unit. They echoed Sarkar’s sentiments, highlighting the party’s vision for a just and media-friendly society.
The program was chaired by Masum Billah, President of the Narayanganj Press Club, and attended by senior journalists such as Ruhul Amin, President of the Narayanganj Journalists Forum, and Motahar Hossain, former Amir of Araihazar Jamaat. Other notable attendees included Maulana Hadiul Islam and Maulana Monirul Islam, leaders of the Araihazar South and North units of Jamaat-e-Islami, respectively.
Journalists present at the event, including Majibur Rahman, Rashid Ahmed Hazari, Rafiqul Islam Rana, and Safur Uddin Prabhat, expressed their expectations for a more supportive environment for the media. The gathering served as a platform for dialogue between the political party and the local press, with Jamaat leaders reiterating their commitment to upholding media rights.
The iftar and prayer event underscored Jamaat-e-Islami’s efforts to build bridges with the media community, promising a future where journalists can operate freely and without fear of censorship or interference. The party’s leaders called for unity and collective efforts to achieve a society based on justice and Islamic principles, while assuring journalists of their unwavering support.
