Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has announced the observance of December 14 as Martyred Intellectuals Day and December 16 as Victory Day, emphasizing the profound significance of these occasions in the nation’s history. In a statement issued on Friday, December 13, through the party’s publicity wing, he urged all branches of Jamaat and the general public to commemorate these days with appropriate respect.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman remarked that the nation is preparing to observe these events during a transformative period when citizens and students have united to liberate the country from what he described as a fascist regime. He claimed that the people, after enduring over 15 years of misrule, repression, and disappearances, have begun to experience a sense of peace and are striving to recover from an economic downturn.

He warned, however, of efforts by the remnants of what he termed a fallen autocracy and their domestic and international allies to destabilize the country through conspiracies. Urging vigilance, he called upon the nation to collectively counteract any plots aimed at undermining national stability.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman reiterated Jamaat's commitment to protecting the nation’s independence and sovereignty while advocating for the establishment of rights for all citizens. He encouraged the organization of discussions, rallies, and prayer gatherings to honor the sacrifices of intellectuals on December 14 and to celebrate the nation’s victory on December 16. He concluded by inviting all Jamaat branches and citizens to uphold the spirit of these historic occasions with unity and dignity.
